2 DAY ITINERARY

DAY 1

BREAKFAST at Mooiplaas
Experience Oudtshoorn (Allow 2 Hours)
Oudtshoorn is about 10 minutes from Mooiplaas Guest House.
Things you must see in town are:

• C.P. Nel Museum: On the corner of Voortrekker Road and Baron van Reede Street (Tel: 044 272 7306). The museum is a declared national monument and houses 12 exhibition rooms showcasing the fascinating story of the ostrich feather industry.
  Visit the C.P. Nel Museum site.
• Le Roux Town House: 146 High Street (Tel: 044 272 3676 ). The Townhouse (1909) is a glamorous feather boom residence featuring various architectural styles, period-furniture and unique Art Nouveau stained glass panels.

• Arbeidsgenot: 217 Jan van Riebeeck Road (Tel: 044 272 2968 ). Arbeidsgenot is a museum, arts and culture centre. C.J. Langenhoven, renowned Afrikaans writer, poet, playwright, and politician was born in 1873 and lived at Arbeidsgenot.

LUNCH
There are lovely restaurants in Baron van Reede Street to choose from.
Some that we recommend are La Dolce Vita, Cafe Brule, Die Peperboom.

CANGO CAVES
Allow 1.5 Hours
The Cango Caves are half an hour from the Guest House. They are one of the world’s great natural wonders, sculptured by nature through the ages. The Standard Tour is an hour and there is a tour starting every hour from 09:00 until 16:00. Then for the more adventurous, there is an Adventure Tour that lasts 1.5 hours.

HIGHGATE OSTRICH SHOW FARM
Allow 1.5 Hours
Experience face-to-face encounters with ostriches, learn more about these fascinating birds, sit on an ostrich, and enjoy everyone’s favourite – ostrich racing!  This is the world’s first, finest and most original ostrich show farm.  Start your visit to Oudtshoorn at Highgate!

BACK HOME
Return to the Guesthouse and relax by the pool.

DINNER
Join us for our famous braai and taste ostrich the way it should be cooked!

DAY 2

BREAKFAST at Mooiplaas.

MOOIPLAAS FARM TOUR
Allow 1.5 Hours
Done by our registered tour guide, Koos. An experience not to be missed!

SWARTBERG PASS
Allow 4 – 5 Hours
The circular route is highly recommended. Drive through the small town De Rust and then Meiringspoort. Visit the waterfall in Meiringspoort and put your feet in the refreshing cold water. Then you will take the turn-off to Prince Albert through Klaarstroom. You can either have lunch in Prince Albert or you can stop along the route of the Swartberg Pass and enjoy a picnic basket that we provide on request in the magnificent setting of the spectacular scenery.

MEERKAT ADVENTURES
Allow Approximately 3 Hours
Together with Devey, you literally walk with wild meerkats. Tours are early morning. Everyone meets before sunrise to visit the meerkats because it is at sunrise when the meerkats come out of their holes.
