 Oudtshoorn is the largest town in the Klein Karoo

  The Swartberg Mountains

The Swartberg Mountains run across the northern edge of the Klein Karoo.The Swartberg Pass is one of the last great passes in the world.
  • They form the border of the Groot Karoo
  • The Swartberg Mountains are the highest and longest range in the Western Cape
  • These spectacular and historic passes offer magnificent scenery
  • It was built in the nineteenth century by the famous engineer and road builder Thomas Bain
Meiringspoort ia another spectacular drive with incredible rock formations. And Seweweekspoort pass runs through a gorge that rises up to  2 000m on either side of the narrow road.

 



 
  The Cango Caves
The Cango Caves are an underground wonderworld
  •  They are estimated to be around 20 million years in the making
  • Situated about 300km east of Cape Town and 29km to Oudtshoorn
  • Resting in the foothills of the magnificent Swartberg mountain range

It is one of the world's great natural wonders with its fascinating and impressive limestone formations in a wide variety of colours.



 
  The Khoi and San People
The Khoi and San people werethe original inhabitants of Southern Africa
  • The San were hunter-gatherers
  • The Khoi were nomadic herders

Today only a few groups of these people live in parts of the Kalahari. But they have left us a legacy of their rock art which depicts a courageous and tough people who could live in harmony with nature without destroying it.
